General Assistance

Notice:

The municipality of Greenbush County of Penobscot administers a General Assistance program for the support of the poor. pursuant to Title 22 MRSA 4304 (1), the municipal officers adopted an ordinance that established this program. A copy of this ordinance is available for public inspection at the town office. Also available for inspection is a copy of the State's General Assistance Statues Gs copies of the State law are made available to the municipality by the Maine Department of Human Services.

Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may call the Town office Monday-Wednesday 7:30am - 4:30pm, Thursday 11am - 6:30pm. at 1-207-826-2050.

Once the applicant has received the General Assistance information packet to fill out, and has gathered all the required documents, please call The Town Office to set up your General Assistance Appointment.  Appointments are scheduled for Wednesdays 9:00am - 1:00pm.

The municipality's General Assistance Administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application.
